Joey Carrington
Due to my experience as a substitute teacher, student aide, and soccer coach, I greatly enjoy counseling children of elementary and high school age. Along with this, I have always felt drawn to helping young men and women dealing with the struggles of early adulthood, as I know how lonely it can feel without the proper support. I work to capitalize on a client's short-term behaviors and habits to optimize them towards helping them achieve a sense of achievement towards their long-term goals and stabilize their mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. I believe the first essential step in any form of counseling is establishing rapport with my clients to be able to help them see how we can grow and make changes together towards a better sense of well-being. Additionally, no single approach for every client is perfect, and I believe in being highly adaptable in accordance with every client's needs and unique characteristics.
Out of the therapy office, I absolutely love sports and all things science fiction. You can find me on the weekends playing pick-up soccer with a variety of friends and acquaintances. After this, you can probably find me at my house watching Star Wars, The Hunger Games, or reading Ray Bradbury books like Fahrenheit 451.
My educational background is:
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Working towards a Master's of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Grand Canyon University
